Gender Reveal

I've already revealed our baby's gender, so this is happening a little backwards, but I loved our gender reveal and really wanted to talk about it!

I've always known that I wanted to find our intimately the gender of our baby whenever we had one. I don't mean in the ultrasound room, I mean like a cake somewhere by ourselves. But my husband wanted to have a whole party in order to find out. So we decided to compromise.

We went to our twenty week anatomy scan and got the cutest ultrasound photos. I love the fact that we have a photo of her foot just sticking out to the ultrasound wand. Our ultrasound tech put the gender in an envelope and I took it to my mom's friend who generously made us a cake for the gender reveal. She did a beautiful job. It looked and tasted better than I imagined.

I was convinced our baby was a girl the entire pregnancy, but was going to be happy either way, because there are different reasons to be excited about either gender. My husband thought our baby was going to be a boy. When we looked at the cake, it looked like the lines inside were dark so we thought it was going to be blue when we cut into it.

We took the cake to a bluff by us that has a beautiful view and used wine glasses to cut into the cake. We stared into each others eyes, excited to take in the moment. When we pulled the wine glasses away, the frosting on the inside of the cake was pink! We were both so excited.

My husband is funny, because when he absorbs and processes things, his face doesn't always show the level of excitement that he has. While I can recognize the levels of excitement in him, my mom asked us (when she saw the video later on) if he was actually excited, despite the smile he had on his face.

That's why I'm glad we did the party as well. When we did that, you could see the excitement written all over his face since he had already processed the truth and he was getting to reveal it to all our friends and family.

For the party, I designed a really cute invitation and banner that said "Boots or Bows?" The banner was definitely my favorite part of putting it all together. We had people bring diapers if they thought baby was a boy and wipes if they thought baby was a girl. We got Chick-Fil-A to cater and had some other snacks. I made/bought pink and blue drinks: raspberry lemonade and a blue Kool aid, pina colada, Sprite drink.

When it came time for the actual reveal, we ordered pink dust and taped it to the dirt bike wheel. My husband did a burnout and the color went everywhere as everyone cheered. The pink cherry blossom in the front yard really added to the ambiance of it all.

Funny side note, as he kept the tire going, it went into the dirt which sprayed me and one of our friends. We all had a good laugh about that one.

If anyone is looking for a way to do a gender reveal, I highly recommend finding out intimately and then sharing through a party. For one, you get to have a moment for just the two of you and get to hold onto a little secret for some time. Another reason is there's less pressure on the party. Plus, it's a great compromise if you can't agree on how you want to find out.

*plenty of photos will be on my Instagram this week!! my phone is being funny so I can't get the photos from there onto here at the moment*
